Dry Shampoo Sprays

Since the spray version of Dry Shampoo seems to be the most popular, lets start with those.  There are many sprays on the market, and in this post I am sharing with you some of my faves.

First on the list, is Ouai Dry Shampoo ($24.00).  The mastermind behind this product is Celebrity Hair Stylist Jen Atkin, who is responsible for glamming the Kardashian’s, Chrissy Teigen, Jessica Alba, and pretty much every major celeb in Hollywood.  I personally am in love with this Dry Shampoo.  If we’re going on scent alone, it’s a 10.  However, as good as it smells, it performs just as well.  What I love is that it neutralizes product build-up and oil, leaving hair instantly refreshed with a light, airy scent. The bonus is no suspicious white spots. Free of parabens and talc. No animal testing, which are huge bonuses for me.

Next up is Elizabeth and James Nirvana ($28.00).  It comes in Black & White.  Created by Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, these are the first fine fragrance dry shampoo’s that refresh, volumize, and texturize while perfuming hair with the addictive fragrance.  The multitasking water-free micro powder is enriched with natural rice starch to absorb oils instantly while adding body and texture to all hair types, leaving hair feeling fresh and clean without any residue.  Both options perform the same, the difference is the fragrance.  You will love the texture you get from these two products.

Third, is by Living Proof  ($22.00).  This brands creator is Jennifer Aniston.  A dry shampoo that cleans beyond ordinary dry shampoos. It’s powered by a Triple-Action Cleaning Technology that makes your hair look, feel and smell clean.  Absorbs and removes oil, sweat and odor, and it works on all hair colors because it leaves virtually no visible residue or powdery build-up behind.
The time-released fragrance delivers a light, clean scent throughout the day. I love the idea that Living Proof Offers free shipping and free returns, so if you buy and and decide its not a fit you can send it back for free.  Click the banner below to purchase.

Another fave of mine is Death Valley Dry Shampoo by R & Co ($29.00).  The highest price point so far of all of those listed above.  Perhaps because of the mega chic packaging.  Just looking at the products based off of their packaging makes me want to use it, but this actually has the performance to back it up.

Not your granny’s dry shampoo. DEATH VALLEY is the quickest way to get volume and body into your hair.  Good for: Easy, big, messy Bardot (or Bon Jovi) hair.  This choice will not disappoint.

In case you weren’t aware, yes even the Kardashian’s have a Dry Shampoo on the Market.  Its their Take 2 Dry Shampoo with Black Seed Oil.  You can find it at Ulta. So heres the deets, it revives limp, lifeless hair by instantly absorbing excess oil and impurities that weigh hair down. This fast drying waterless spray, formulated with rejuvenating Black Seed Oil, extends the life of your style by refreshing the roots and providing a pure foundation for layered styling, creating the ultimate finish.

The next one I’m featuring is a Duo which makes it unique.  Its from the Dry Bar, which is a chain of Blowdry Bars, that have of course come out with a line of products designed to extend the life of your blowout.  What is unique here, is that there is a Dry Shampoo, but there is also a Dry Conditioner.  I personally like the idea of a dry conditioner because if your hair is anything like mine, it can get a bit tangled when it hasn’t been washed.  The dry conditioner does a great job paired with the dry shampoo of keeping the hair refreshed and detangled.  By the way, it smells incredible.  I find myself wanting to spray it on my hair just to freshen up the smell.  Both bottles retail for $23.00 each so they are comparable to other brands.

Last but not least of the spray Dry Shampoo’s is Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk.  This is a great option for my health conscious girls.  Made from more natural plant based ingredients, and known to be one of the original dry shampoo’s. It  adds volume and texture to hair, and extends the life of blow-outs and hair color.  It is ideal for people on-the-go, frequent travelers, after the gym, and busy moms.
It is sulfate, paraben and sodium chloride free.  Which is definitely a bonus.

Wow, that was a bunch, and doesn’t even scratch the surface of what is out there.  But those are definitely some worth mentioning, plus it gives you many options.  Lets now talk about powder dry shampoo, when you should use it as well as some of my favorite options.

Dry Shampoo Powders

Often times I am asked what would be the reason you would choose a powder version of Dry Shampoo over a spray.   Besides preference, here are some actual reasons why as well as some brands to choose from.

First, I find that if your hair tends to be pretty oily, or perhaps you have waited way to long to wash it, I find that the powder does a very good job of soaking up all of the oil.  When your hair is dirtier or more oily, you will likely need a powder as this will completely soak up the oil and leave your hair feeling oil free.

I personally use both spray and powder versions of Dry Shampoo.  I like to use the Spray version when my hair is maybe 1 or 2 days old.  But,  if I go any further past 2 days, then I use the powder at the roots first and then use the spray to make it smell amazing and add some texture.

Working out may also require you to use a powder.  You will just have to play around and see what works for you.  Here is a breakdown of some that I would recommend.

First up is Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-powder.  Equal parts dry shampoo, style extender and volume in a pinch, this is a great option for those days when you need a little bit more.  This is $12.00 for 0.3 oz.

Next, is Faux Dry by Blow Pro. This is actually the one that I use daily and I really like it.   It has a little nozzle in the cap, and just by squeezing the bottle a cloud of the powder comes out directly where you point it. It retails for $20.00.  I have to say that it lasts quite a while too.  There is no fragrance to this, however I always have my Sprays handy to add that if needed.

dry-shampooKevin Murphy’s Powder Puff is not only super cute, but it works.   To find out where you can purchase it check out their salon locator.  Creates Volume, has a Dry Matte Texture, its weightless, it is infused with Apple, Plum, Cranberries and Citrus extracts which make it a bit more natural.  Whats unique is its a setting lotion encapsulated in a sphere of powder. If this sounds great to you then this is a must try.

Last but not least, I promised to touch on a couple that fit the budget and that you can find at the drugstore.  I typically recommend professional products, but I think these are worth sharing.

Drugstore Brand Dry Shampoo

One of the reasons I generally prefer professional products is because they come with a recommendation of a professional who will guide you into choosing the right products for your hair type.  When you walk into the drugstore sometimes you have no idea if what you are buying will even work for your hair, until you get home and try it out. Only to find out that its completely wrong for what you are looking for.  When that happens it can end up costing you more in the long run because you have to go back and repurchase.  So I am taking the guess work out for you.  Here are two Drugstore Brand Dry Shampoo’s for your budget.

dry-shampooFirst up is TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.  TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo, with Mineral Clay and Citrus, revives your fine, limp hair by removing excess oil and impurities and helping eliminate odor, leaving hair rejuvenated. Just a quick spray at the roots and this weightless, fine mist will revitalize and refresh your hair without any visible residue for hair that is full of movement. You can’t beat the price of $5.99, so if your looking for budget friendly, then this is definitely a good choice.

The final product is this Dove Refresh and Care Dry.  You can order it from Target for just under 4 dollars.  Dove’s Dry Shampoo is a weightless formula that cleans and refreshes to transform your hair from lifeless to bouncy. With just a few quick sprays, your hair will be fresh, clean and full of healthy-looking volume and body even when you skip your regular wash.

With so many options to choose from, its nice to get some recommendations from a pro.  Do any of these sound tempting?  Have you tried any of these listed already?  Let me know in the comments which one your for sure trying.  I hope this helps you find your new favorite Dry Shampoo.
