Must Have Skincare For Aging Skin

Calling all Ladies 35 and older.  This blog post is just for you and here is why.  How many of you are starting to notice fines lines and/or wrinkles, sun spots, dull lifeless looking skin?  If this is you, then we are definitely on the same page.  This post, will include my Must Have Skin Care For Glowing And Younger Looking Skin.

A couple of years ago, I was starting to feel like my skin was finally catching up with my age.  I have always been one of those lucky ones that didn't have to barely do anything to my skin and it always looked glowy and healthy.  Good genes I guess, because I certainly wasn't putting in the work to make it look that way.  Then one day everything changed.  My skin started to look dry, dull, lifeless, and the fine lines and wrinkles had finally arrived.  I knew I had to start taking care of my skin if I wanted it to look young for years to come.  After lots of research, recommendations from professionals and friends, and visits with the aesthetician I was able to find a solution that started to give me the results I was looking for.   Feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments and I will help you as best I can.

Glowing Skin Starts From Within

Often times we don't want to think about or even admit this, but glowing skin is directly associated with what we are putting inside of our bodies as well as outside.  With that being said, one of the practices to get into is incorporating more plants into your diet.  This doesn't mean you have to go "Vegan", but be sure you are getting enough servings of fruits and vegetables through out the day for glowing skin.  If veggies aren't your thing, then maybe go for a veggie juice that is made with fruit as well to help you with the taste and make it sweeter.  This can be a great way to get a lot of veggies in in one fast sitting.  You will actually be quite surprised with the results.  I started incorporating more plants into my diet a couple of years ago and this has been a game changer for me.

I definitely don't want to spend too much time talking about food, because this post is more about topical solutions, but I wanted to make mention of plants because I know first hand how helpful this can be.

Facials

The next solution I found was to start incorporating regular facials.  Now I must say, I certainly don't get them as often as I would like, because they can be costly, but when deciding to make changes to your skin, and if you want to see results fast, then a good facial is a must.  All facials are beneficial to some extent, but I would recommend going for a facial that has a bit more benefits.  I personally like the Hydra Facial.  I started doing them about 2 years ago.  Let me tell you, they are not cheap, but they work, VERY well.  If you have the time, click the Hydra Facial link above to learn more about the treatment and all of the benefits.  You can also look for locations near you that offer the service.  Believe me when I tell you ladies, this facial WILL change your skin forever.

Cleansing

What your cleansing with on a daily basis is also very important.  For those experiencing dull looking skin, opt for a gentle exfoliating cleanser.  I was introduced to Skin Medica's AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser and have been very pleased.   It provides a nice gentle exfoliation that will not irritate your skin.  In addition, it gently removes the dead skin cells  and greatly improves the overall appearance of your skin.  A good cleanser will make all the difference.  Sometimes this alone can provide drastic results.

Retinols

Before I knew what Retinols did, I thought they were only for people who were trying to get rid of acne.  Sure this is true, but Retinols are also used and incorporated into regular skin care regimens as well.  I want to take some time to go in depth about this because I want to make sure you know why they are so important and why you should start using one tomorrow.  To begin, Retinol is the only skincare product that the FDA legally allows skin care companies to call "anti-aging".  Retinols, simply put, is a form of Vitamin A.  It improve discoloration, reverses the visibility of fine lines, stimulates collagen production, and strengthens deeper levels of your skin to prevent it from showing signs of aging.  Sounds amazing right?  Exactly, this is why this is the 1 product you should go out and buy tomorrow.  If you have sensitive skin issues, talk with your dermatologist to find out which strength is best for you.

Yes, I said strength.  This is because most Retinols come in different strengths.  It was recommended to me to alway start lower and move up just to be sure you are not over doing it.  Retinols can be very strong so better to be safe.  When using Retinols, its a good idea to stay out of the direct sun, tanning beds, and also do not wax your face until you have waited one whole week from your last use.   Other than that, enjoy.  My aesthetician recommended using the retinol at night before bed, this way nothing is placed over it and it can do its work while sleeping.  Many wonder how soon you will see results, well it can take a few months for more drastic results, but I personally noticed results almost right away.  My favorite is by Skin Medica, it is the Retinol Complex, and I currently use the 1.0 strength.

Facial Masks

Facial Masks, especially sheet masks have become all the rage. It's nice to have these around for those days when you feel like your skin needs a pick me up and your not quite ready for a visit to the aesthetician.   After I use a sheet mask, I feel like my skin is instantly rejuvenated.  Great to use if your going to be in photos, going to a party, really any time you want to give your skin a shot of rejuvenation.  I personally was doing them about once per month, until I was working on a job with a friend and they told me they do one in the morning and one at night.  While this may be a bit much for most of us, I feel like once a week is probably a good recommendation.   The face mask below  is from Charlotte Tilbury, and its the Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask.

You can really find face masks everywhere nowadays.  Burt's Bees also makes a great sheet mask.  Do your research and find the ones that best suit you.  I personally choose ones with hyaluronic acid because they keep the skin plump and hydrated.

Eye Pads

Another Must Have Skin Care For Glowing And Younger Looking Skin, is Eye Pads.  For me personally, eye pads really make a huge difference.  This is because I happen to have dark circles and sometimes puffy eyes due to allergies.  Eye Pads have been a game changer for helping with that.  I also really like them because they hydrate the skin under the eyes and the cooling effect feels nice on the under eye skin.  I am sharing two brands that I enjoy, Peter Thomas Roth Hydra Gel Eye Patches.  They are a pack of pampering 24K gold eye contour hydra-gels to help improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, darkness, puffiness, and loss of firmness.

Another one of my favorite skin care brands Arbonne, just recently launched a new line of skin care solutions and one of the items was eye pads.  The Arbonne Prepwork Gel Eye Masks soothe and cool on contact, transforming tired, puffy-looking eyes into wide-awake, “I’m a morning person” eyes. Plus, they have a moisture-boosting superfood cocktail of antioxidants, omegas and phytonutrients that help soften the look of baby lines around the eyes.  If thats not enough,  part of the proceeds from Prepwork goes to supporting the Arbonne Charitable Foundation®’s mission to empower teens. So your helping yourself and someone else at the same time.  It's a win win situation.

Derma Rollers

You guys, this is a must have for sure.  Are you using a Derma Roller for your face, neck and chest?  If not, you must give this device a try.  I will add for you a link to the one that I purchased from Amazon as its working well and the price was right.  These can get a little pricey so I would try a less expensive one first to be sure you like it before investing in a more expensive version if that is your desire.  Let me share a little story about the Derma Roller with you.

While traveling with a friend, they introduced to me the derma roller.  Once per day is a good start.  Once you have purchased your derma roller, you will want to clean it, and apply 91% or higher Alcohol from the drug store.  Before you use this on your face, be sure to wash your hands and spray the roller.  Also, its a good idea to check out some you tube videos for how to properly use the roller.  This can be very helpful.  Here is what the tool looks like.

You may or may not be able to see, but there are very small needles on the roller shown above.  They come in different sizes, I personally started with .50 and this has been a good start for me.  I have been doing this every night before bed.  Why should you use this tool?  It  is the latest trend in the quest to stay youthful. It's a tool that uses fine needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled skin injury in order to rejuvenate skin.  Don't worry, it doesn't hurt at all, it actually feels really good, and you will notice instant results especially when you layer the rest of your nighttime skin care over top of it.  It is said that this tools allows the products to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin than if you skip this step.  So get on it ladies, I'm telling you, it will change your life.  Click HERE to see the Derma Roller that I have been using.

I feel like I can go on and on about skin care products, especially because in the last few years I have been trying many products to find exactly what works and what doesn't.  Of course Moisturizers, SPF, and Eye Cream are also products you should be using every day.  Listed below are the names of what I use of those.  I think its important I list them for you, however to avoid this post becoming too long, its best I focus on the big items that have made a huge difference for me.

  • Moisturizer:  Skin Medica Total Defense & Repair SPF 50

  • Eye Cream: Skin Medica TNS Eye Repair

  • Skin Medica Lytera Skin Brightening Complex ( I use this before moisturizer for brighter skin)

This is everything I have found to be very effective for more youthful, glowing skin.  It has really made a difference for me.  Are you currently using any of these items?  If so share with me in the comments which ones and how they are working for you.  Are you using something your not seeing on this list?  Let me know in the comments so I can give them a try also.
