Textured Chic

Textured Chic...At least that’s what I like to call it. Its that perfect balance of done but not done and its completely swept Hollywood by storm. It is in my experience one of the most requested hairstyles in editorial, runway and on set. I instantly think of the Olsen Twins whenever I envision this style. In this post, I’ll share with you some easy steps to achieve the style quickly and effectively by combining a wave pattern with a beachy curl using just a couple of products and your Smoothing Iron.  Steps:

1.)  Its important to begin this style with a blast dry method using your favorite hair dryer ( I prefer Paul Mitchell Neuro Dry) and volumizing or texturizing product. This creates a textured foundation and builds the volume into the hair.

2.)  Next, spray Thermal Protecting Spray  throughout to protect from the heating elements.

3.)  Section the hair into 4  segments.

4.)  Starting in the nape take 2-inch thick horizontal sections working up to the top, and in each section place your smoothing iron horizontally. Create waves by first rocking the iron upward and sliding down slightly, then downward, alternating up and down until you reach the ends. Follow the same process from bottom up to top in all 4 segments. Keep in mind you do not have to perfectly wave all of the hair. Part of what makes this style is the fact it’s not so perfect.

5.)  After completing all 4 segments, now take your Smoothing Iron and take random vertical sections and curl a few sections. I like to say hit the “Money Shots”, which are all the spots that matter. The first two pieces around the face, and then random pieces throughout. Remember, because it’s a textured look, we leave out those ends. Place the iron vertically with the opening of the iron facing down. Then twist the hair around the iron and release, leaving out the ends. You can definitely alternate the direction of the curls. Keep in mind though, not too many curls, less is actually more.

6.)  Finally, using Paul Mitchell Spray Wax or your favorite texture spray, spray the hair throughout. After you have sprayed, take the two palms of your hands and massage the hair into your hands, this works the two textures together to create your finished look. Detail to your liking.
